Living With Lyme Disease

May 16 09

What is Lyme Disease anyway?  Is there a cure for this disease? I've been living with the disease since July 2003 and I've just learned to deal with it because there is no cure.  I remember feeling my hopes dashed when I got really sick and my doctor told me that I had to "let it run its course".  Well everything I had read told me other wise and here I am 6 years later and I am still sick.  I've decided that I am going to start writing about it because I'm ticked off.

I'm ticked off because there is no cure.  I'm ticked off because I'm sick of people who tell me I look fine.  I'm ticked off because people tell me that I should be feeling better by now.  I'm ticked off because my head hurts constantly.  I'm ticked off because I don't feel as sharp as I use to.  I'm ticked off because I'm always exhausted.  I'm ticked off because I don't feel like I'm living a good quality life.  I'm ticked off because there is no cure.  I'm ticked off because I should have partied when I was younger and enjoy life to the fullest and I didn't, instead I played it safe and stuck to the straight and norrow road.  Where did it get me?  All ticked off with Lyme Disease.

I'm ticked off because I'm just ticked off right now.  Who are you to tell me how I'm feeling?  Can you understand that I just live day to day hoping and praying for a good day?  Do you even know that a good day is just waking up without a headache for at least a few hours only to have that burning feeling in my head come back.  Oh well, that's it for now.

Excuse me. Listen. Do not have an opinion while you listen because frankly, your opinion doesn?t hold much water outside of Your Universe. Just listen. Listen until their brain has been twisted like a dripping towel and what they have to say is all over the floor.

I am from South and also now'm speaking English, please tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Mla style citation urmann, david car alarm installations."

:P Thanks in advance. Raizel.

I wish they would stop fighting and focus on finding a cure. There are people suffering every day and someone diagnosed with Lyme Disease every minute.

I understand completely~ having been dismissed by doctors even though I have a full diagnosis of Lyme disease. No one will do anything because they are afraid of IDSA guidelines and the loss of their medical credentials. I get that however we really have an epidemic on our hands and those of us who are years into this and can barely walk can attest with our bodies the severity of the disease. You have the right to be ticked off and so do I and many hundred of thousands others who suffer and are told we cannot help you. Shame , shame, shame on the IDSA and our government for not addressing this disease in time…people are dying.

I know so many people diagnosed with lyme disease and i think it's a crime that they won't do the research for a cure.

Prevention Tips

1. BEWARE OF TICKS. Ticks do not hop, or fly, they crawl toward a host when detecting body heat, or carbon dioxide. Ticks live in weedy areas. Tall grass, leaf litter, low shrubs, underbrush, and field and trail edges are favored. In highly infected areas, lawns may have ticks.
2. WEAR LONG SLEEVES & LONG PANTS. Tuck the legs into your socks. Light-colored clothes make it easier to spot ticks.
3. STAY IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAILS. Don't brush against leaves and weeds or hike through the underbrush.
4. USE AN INSECT REPELLENT. Follow manufacturers directions.Look for ones containing 25-35% DEET.
5. CHECK FOR TICKS OFTEN. Crawling ones can be brushed off carefully.
6. PLACE CLOTHES IN A DRYER. A 1/2 hr. dryer high heat cycle will destroy ticks which might be hiding in clothing. the scalp, and behind the ears.
7. DO A THOROUGH TICK CHECK. Ticks crawl upward until they are stopped..Check legs, waistline, bra line, and armpits, and ask a family member to help check scalp, back, etc.
8. USE REPELLENTS AND CHECK YOUR PETS before they enter the house for crawling or attached ticks.
9. HUNTERS AND TRAPPERS SHOULD HANG ANIMAL CARCASSES AWAY FROM BUILDINGS. Put a bucket of bleach water under the animal to catch any ticks falling off. Wear rubber gloves when field dressing or handling meat to minimize chances for infection.
